Copy & Paste Across Shares

Move or copy files between different shares.

How It Works

Copy and paste in Handrive is a two-step process:

1. Copy - Select files and copy them to the clipboard
2. Paste - Navigate to destination and paste

Files transfer directly from the source to the destination.

Copying Files

1. Select the files you want to copy
2. Click Copy in the action bar (or right-click → Copy)
3. A notification confirms the files are copied to clipboard

The clipboard stores your selection until you paste or copy something else.

Pasting Files

1. Navigate to the destination share/folder
2. Right-click → Paste (or use the paste button)
3. Confirm the paste operation
4. Optionally add a transfer message
5. Files begin transferring

Pasting initiates a transfer. Files are copied, not moved—originals remain in place.

Transfer Messages

When pasting, you can add an optional message:

1. In the paste confirmation dialog, enter a message
2. This message is attached to the transfer
3. Helpful for providing context to recipients

Copy-Paste Scenarios

Your Share → Your Share

• Files copy locally on your device
• Fastest option (no network needed)

Your Share → Remote Share

• Files upload to the other person's device
• Requires you both to be online

Remote Share → Your Share

• Files download from their device to yours
• Creates a local copy

Remote Share → Remote Share

• Files transfer between two other devices
• You facilitate the connection

Checking Paste Status

After pasting:

1. Check the Transfer History panel
2. See progress for the copy operation
3. View any errors if the transfer fails

Tips

• Paste into folders - Navigate into a folder before pasting to organize files
• Large transfers - Copying many files may take time; the transfer runs in the background
• Stay online - Both parties need to be online for remote transfers to complete
